WHO WE ARE
ORIGIN AND PURPOSE
The Catholic-Jewish Relations Council of Northeast Queens, inspired by Vatican Council II, was established in 1969 by the joint action of the Diocese of Brooklyn / Queens and prominent Jewish leaders for the purpose of promoting goodwill, understanding and respect between Catholics and Jews within its geographic area. The Archdiocese of New York and the Diocese of Rockville Centre, with an eye towards establishing similar Councils in their dioceses, also participated in the creation of the guidelines that ultimately resulted in the establishment of the Catholic-Jewish Relations Council of Northeast Queens.
